Ethanol Blended Petrol Program
The Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) Program
The Ethanol Blended Petrol (EBP) program is expected to remain the primary driver of ethanol demand in India. Although the current ethanol blending target rate is 10%, the actual rate hovers around 8%. The Government recently advanced EBP blending rate by 5 years to achieve 20% blend rate by 2025.
As per industry sources, the country will need nearly 11 Bn litres of fuel ethanol by 2026 to support 20% blending rate from 2023 onwards while India’s current overall ethanol manufacturing capacity stand at 6.84 Bn litres. Going forward, the production capacity of ethanol is projected 684 Cr litres which must rise to 1500 Cr litres by 2025-26 to achieve an ethanol production of 11 Cr litres for a 20% blend with gasoline. Fuel ethanol consumption is thus slated to grow at 33% CAGR 2020-26 to fulfil the estimated demand and support the 20% blending target rate starting from April 2023 onwards.
Devsristi has entered into a long term off-take agreement with various OMCs to support the GOI’s initiative.
