DDGS
DISTILLER’S DRIED GRAINS WITH SOLUBLES (DDGS)
Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) is a co-product of the ethanol production process. It is commonly used as a high-protein animal feed ingredient.
In the case of rice-based ethanol, DDGS is produced from the spent grains after the ethanol has been extracted. These spent grains are dried and processed to remove excess moisture, resulting in a dry, powdery substance that is rich in protein and fiber. As DDGS is marketed dry, it has a considerably long shelf life.
Rice-based DDGS typically contains around 25-30% protein, along with significant levels of fiber, fat, and minerals. It is commonly used as a feed ingredient for poultry, swine, and cattle, as it provides a source of high-quality protein that is easily digestible and can help to support growth and muscle development.
